Trash Talk: Community Dumpster Day Guide

The City of Grand Rapids and Kent County Departments of Public Works recycling educators are pairing up to bring waste and recycling education to your neighborhood!

A big goal of this year's Neighborhood Dumpster Days is to sort and prevent (divert) as much waste from going into the landfill dumpster as possible -- can we count on you to help? There will be multiple dumpsters at each neighborhood's Dumpster Day event(s) for recycling and other types of waste diversion but knowing what items should go to different dumpsters and why can be difficult to understand.
We are offering 5 opportunities for Dumpster Day volunteers (or anyone in your neighborhood) to learn more about our City and County's waste landscape, recycling do's and don'ts, what free recycling programs exist for you and your neighbor, and what you can do at Dumpster Day (and beyond!) to make sure as little stuff as possible goes to the landfill.
With significant changes to solid waste law at the State of MI level, our hope is that we can keep the waste and recycling conversation going after the 2024 Dumpster Day season to create a tremendous shift in our waste habits, access, and participation.
