Secretario de la Ciudad Darlene O'Neal

Darlene O’Neal was born in Muncie, IN, moved to Grand Rapids in the early 70’s, attended the elementary, middle, and high school programs in the Grand Rapids Public School District, and is a proud graduate of Creston High School – Class of 1984.

 

Ms. O’Neal received her Bachelor of Business Management degree with minors in Communication and Political Science from Davenport College (now Davenport University), her Master of Public Administration/Urban and Regional Policy and Planning degree from Grand Valley State University, and is currently a few classes short of a second Master of Public Administration degree in Health Administration.

 

She began her career with the City of Grand Rapids in 1985 as a Clerk Typist I in the Housing Inspections Department.  During her eventful travels over the years in the organization, she worked in the Assessor’s Office, Payroll, Housing Commission, Parking Services, Parks & Recreation/Special Events, Engineering/Sidewalks, and now the City Clerk’s Office.  She has also served on various boards in the community and volunteers her time regularly to mentor young adults.

 

Darlene strongly believes in delivering service of excellence to the citizens of Grand Rapids and each customer that visits our offices.  “With strategic thinking, proper planning, networking, effective communication, and teamwork, we as an organization will continue providing great customer service to our community. “

 

Darlene has two beautiful daughters, Mercedes who currently attends Central Michigan University, and Anandi who attends the Forest Hills Public School District.
