This vacancy is the result of the recent resignation of Commissioner Nathaniel Moody

Interested individuals can apply to the City Clerk now through 5 p.m. Thursday, February 1. An appointee to this vacancy must be a resident of the city for six months or more immediately prior to the date of appointment and must be a registered and qualified elector of the Third Ward at the time of appointment.

The salary for this position is established by the Local Officers Compensation Commission, which meets in odd-numbered years. The annual salary of this office is currently set at $32,550.

Procedure

Procedure for Selecting a City Commissioner for a Vacant Seat

  1. Interested individuals can submit an application to the City Clerk beginning January 23. Applications will be available at the City Clerk’s Office and for download using this link(PDF, 153KB). Applicants should submit the completed application form, a resume and one (1) professional reference and two (2) personal references.

  2. The application period will expire on February 1 at 5 p.m. All applications must be in the hands of the City Clerk by this date and time. No application received late will be accepted.

  3. All valid applications will be reviewed by the City Clerk to ensure eligibility. The Committee on Appointments will review the applications on February 6.

  4. Applicants will be interviewed by the Committee on Appointments Committee on February 20, and recommend three final candidates to the full City Commission.

  5. The selected top candidates are expected to be interviewed by the full City Commission meeting in public session on Tuesday, March 5. The City Commission will discuss the candidates and possibly vote at that meeting.

  6. If the City Commission needs more time or additional discussion, the vote is anticipated to be held Tuesday, March 19.

  7. The public will have the opportunity to speak at City Commission meetings regular public comment period on February 20 and March 5.

  8. The candidate who is selected will be sworn in immediately following the selection.
