Communications Department

The Communications Department leads our engagement with our residents, businesses, visitors and the media. We do this in several ways:

Media Relations

Our office manages press releases and handles requests from the media.

The media relations division manages press releases for the City. The division manager handles our relationship with the media. He connects department representatives with media outlets and coordinates questions from the press.

Community Relations

Our office works to focus on members of our community to keep them informed about what is happening Citywide and in their neighborhoods.

Strategic Marketing

We strive to reach every resident of Grand Rapids with not only up-to-date information on what's happening in our city, but also amplify the programs and offerings you can take advantage of. We strategically map out our plans, answering who we're trying to reach, how to reach them where they are, and when to do so, all with the goal of getting the information in front of you as quickly and effectively as possible.

We research the best channels and methods to distribute this information and advise and assist the other departments of Grand Rapids to accomplish the same. These methods include but are not limited to social media, video, radio, postcards, newsletters, media releases, and more.

Cable Television Administration

We stream City Commission meetings and produce informative videos to let you know what's happening at City Hall.

We manage the City's video services and government access channel (Comcast Channel 26). This channel provides information for Grand Rapids residents and other community stakeholders. It gives up-to-date information on local and state government activities. Just for fun, we also air programs featuring historical footage of the city.

We broadcast (Channel 26) and stream (Facebook and YouTube) City Commission meetings live, as well as several Board and Committee meetings.

These are included in the documents below:
