Paso 1.Check your eligibility

To qualify for the Small Business Property Tax exemption, the true cash value of all your commercial or industrial personal property has to be less than $80,000.

Paso 2.Complete the Michigan Form 5076

The form you use to apply for this exemption is a State of Michigan form called the Small Business Property Tax Exemption Claim Under MCL 211.9o.

You can fill out the form on your computer, but you'll need to print it and sign it before submitting the original to our office. Don't have a printer? You can pick up the form at our office, we're located at the address listed in the Contact Us section of this page.

Paso 3.Make sure you file on time

The business owner or owner's agent will need to file for this exemption every year. This form must be filed with the City Assessor's office no later than February 20th. If the 20th falls on a weekend, you have until the next business day to file.

If you're ready to submit, mail your completed form to the address listed in the Contact Us section of this page.

Paso 5.We'll review your application

The process to review your application can take a few weeks. Whether you're approved or denied, we'll mail you a letter to let you know.
