Parks and Recreation

About the Board

We make recommendations to the Parks and Recreation department. Here's a quick look at a few of our duties:

  • Recommend policies, rules, and regulations for the public use of parks and recreation facilities and programs
  • Annual review and recommend changes to the established criteria within the Parks and Recreation Master Plan for facility improvements, land acquisition, capital renovation or development

  • 1 member must be a representative of Grand Rapids Public Schools
  • 1 member must be a representative of Downtown Grand Rapids, Inc.
  • 1 member must be a representative of Friends of Grand Rapids Parks
  • Members are appointed by the City Commission for terms beginning on the first Monday in January

Residency Requirement

You must be a resident that lives within the city limits of Grand Rapids.

Term Limits

Each term lasts 3 years.

Compensation

There is no compensation for being a member of this board.
